When I was a little girl, nothing made me happier than a good bedtime story. It was my dad who told the best ones. He could make up an entertaining story in a second, without thinking at all. No planning. No premeditating. Just bam! There were mysteries and there were sad stories or happy stories or adventure stories. I wish that I had known then what I know now... WRITE THEM DOWN. How I wish I could go back in time and listen to my dad tell a bedtime story. You know what was even cooler? Sometimes, he would pull out his guitar and sing stories. There was this boy named Dodie. There was a Big Yellow School Bus and a Little Red Volkswagon. There were stories about people who had been sick, but recovered. There was stories about travels around the world. It was just amazing.
I think my dad's ability to come up with a great story at a moment's notice made me love writing and storytelling even more. Today, I will begin to post some of my own stories and these are the kinds of stories you can jump into and finish yourself or let me finish for you. Remember Which Way books? Those were so much fun for me as a kid because as the reader, I got to decide which way to go to finish the story.
I am convinced that there are some people out there with the ability to tell great stories and I would love to see them. If you have trouble getting started, I have made it easy for you. Click on a story starter below and let's jump into the good old-fashioned joy of storytelling! I've started and all you have to do is end it. I'm curious how many different ways a story can go with different imaginations. In some of these, I've described characters, but in others I have not which means that not only can you finish a story, but if you want, you can let me know how you picture the characters by adding descriptions. You can submit your endings to these stories by emailing me at crewsds17@gmail.com.
